Endless Love

A handsome man, and witty
Meets a lady, not too pretty
And also not too young and not too bright.
What she lacks in art and science
She makes up in compliance
And that is how she comes to spend the night.
On a Saturday that's boozy
A man may not be choosy
And sometimes cheap and cheery has it charm.
His friends find nothing shocking,
But they commence their gawking
When she turns up Monday morning on his arm.

She's the one-night stand
That wouldn't end
Every passing night
He'll condescend
To let her pretend
That she has a place
As lover and friend
But she's the one-night stand
That wouldn't end.

Though at first, her fond attentions
May flatter his pretensions
By Tuesday he is plotting his escape.
Though he basks in the applause
It starts to give him pause
That someone might mistake her for an ape.
As she gets more insistent
So he becomes more distant
In hopes that this will teach her not to cling.
When his subtlety is lost
He begins to count the cost
Of jumping in the sack with such a ding-

Bat! She's the one-night stand
That wouldn't end
Every passing night
He'll condescend
To let her pretend
That she has a place
As lover and friend
But she's the one-night stand
That wouldn't end.

So girls, if you encounter
That fellow called the bounder
And marvel at his questionable taste
Don't find it disconcerting
If he continues flirting;
Remember that his currency's debased.
And men, you must take warning
Or be sorry in the morning
A one-night stand's an easy thing to botch.
So next time, be sincerer
And make your feelings clearer
Or better yet, stop thinking with your crotch!

Or you'll have a one-night stand
That doesn't end
Every passing night
You'll condescend
To let her pretend
That she has a place
As lover and friend
But she's the one-night stand
That doesn't--
A song that can't be sung
A fling that can't be flung
She's just the one-night stand
That doesn't end!
