Sunset
We stopped out on the highway to
watch the sun go down
Beside a field where melting ice glowed silver on the ground
You took my hand in yours as rose and orange filled the sky
You said, “I can give you nothing but the dregs of a life drunk dry”
And I said, "I can’t see the road behind, the twists and turns you’ve made
But I’ll keep looking straight ahead until the colours fade
Maybe I’m crazy, but I’m not afraid
And I will watch the sunset with you"
We walked along the shore where the wind had dried the sand
I looked into your haunted eyes, and kissed your broken hand
You said you had no strength for one more beautiful mistake
And I felt you drift away from me like ice across the lake
I can’t see the road behind, the twists and turns you’ve made
But I’ll keep looking straight ahead until the colours fade
Maybe I’m crazy, but I’m not afraid
And I will watch the sunset with you
I can’t see the road behind, the twists and turns you’ve made
But I’ll keep looking straight ahead until the colours fade
Maybe I’m crazy, but I’m not afraid
And I will watch the sunset with you
And I will watch the sunset with you
