Out Of the Darkness
Just like my mother before me
I went out with a dream in my hand.
Just like my father before me
I said there is hope for this land
But just like the people before us
Whose teachings and writings were banned
We don’t know, will there always be somebody to carry on?
Darkening blue is the sky overhead
And when will the journey be done?
As we fly out of the darkness
And we’re only a little outrun
By the sun.
Just like my mother before me
Found my dream a meandering guide
Just like my father before me
Whose hopes were defamed and denied
We can face all the people before us
We can tell them, “Your voice hasn’t died”
But what will we do when even our voices are gone?
Darkening blue is the sky overhead
And when will the journey be done?
As we fly out of the darkness
And we’re only a little outrun
By the sun.
