Alberta Honeymoon

Darling, let me walk with you
By our lake of toxic goo
We’ll take our life in our hands
Run barefoot thru the tar sands
On our Alberta honeymoon

Open pits beneath the stars
Craters you can see from Mars
The landscape is despoiled
And oh so richly oiled
On our Alberta honeymoon

We’ll run away in June
To our private black lagoon
All thanks to the industry’s ambitions
Is it the love tonight
That makes my head feel light
Or is it the carbon emissions?

Barrels of synthetic crude
Sure to put you in the mood
We’ll gaily clink our glasses
Amidst the greenhouse gases
On our Alberta honeymoon

We’ll wander by a stream
That’s being drained for steam
To operate the oil extractor
Or if perhaps your taste
Runs more to nuclear waste
I hear that they’re putting in a reactor

Book the package, let’s go all out
We might even catch some fallout
So savour the romance
We may not get another chance
Not after our Alberta honeymoon
