SOLOMON ISLANDS:  Savo Island and the Neggela Islands

Savo is a small island 14 km north of Guadalcanal. An active volcano, it has a pair of inactive but potentially dangerous craters, one inside the other, a number of hot springs and thermal mud pools, Megapode birds, and an eye-catching shoreline. The Nggela Islands in Central Province, once called the Florida Islands, lie between Malaita and Guadalcanal. They are breathtaking when seen from the air on the flight between Honiara and Auki, but I only managed a couple of shots from the deck of the ferry, Compass Rose, on my first trip to Malaita.
