Jedi Ranger's News Archive:

March 11, 2007 - First pics of my custom Random Saber, Berkut (Russian for Golden Eagle).  I waited one full year for this hilt to be machined by Ryan at RandomSabers.  I have several mods planned, including a 5-watt blue led.

I have also taken new pics of my updated LED hilt #3.

January 31, 2007 - Two great news items today, and the first items of 2007.  First, after being rather disappointed with the "plastic/nylon" iron-on corerllian bloodstripes I purchased a couple months back, I decided to FINALLY order some real embroidered ones that I found rather hidden about a year ago.  They arrived and the look AWESOME!!  I can't wait to "install" them.  Pics here.  Also, after 11 long months of waiting, my custom hilt is finally out of the machine shop at RandomSabers.com.  It has not shipped yet, but the initial pics look sweet!  Once I get it, I will be installing an LED electronics setup for the blade.

December 28, 2006 - Some thumbnail pictures added to the LED index page, for speedy reference.

December 20, 2006 - Besides being my Birthday, I have added some new pics (of my lightsaber holster v2.0) and also rearranged the costume parts section.

November 13, 2006 - All the new internal links should be working now.

November 08, 2006 - Pics (and info) of my newest LED lightsaber, #7.  I have also totally redone and reorganized my custom LED section.  I have given each hilt it's own page, so picture viewing can commence ASAP.

November 01, 2006 - Pics (and info) of my brand new leather lightsaber thigh holster, here.

August 18, 2006 - Pics of my newest 3w LED lightsaber (#6) uploaded.  I was finally able to get a true cyan led.  I also installed an led "driver" board from Corbin's Components, which has several cool features, including voltage leveling, and led power-up/down effect.  I also installed a Master Replicas Luke FX sound module.  This hilt is jam-packed with 2 circuit boards, 2 power supplies and the speaker.  I installed 2 switches, so I don't always have to have the sound running.  The hilt has a flat black coating, with polished brass accents.  I custom-designed, fabricated (dremeled), and hand-sanded and hand-polished these parts.

August 11-13, 2006 - I was able to attend Con-Version 22 in Calgary, AB.  There were several great guests, including Jeremy Bullock (OT Boba Fett), and two of my favorite S-F authors: David Weber and Larry Niven.

July 06, 2006 - Well, my newest LED hilt is basically finished.  It needs to be taken apart, cleaned, and polished, but here are the first pics of it put together.  I did take a few "making of" pics, and may post them, if people want to see.  Anyway......have a look here, or in my "Custom LED" section.

July 02, 2006 - Pictures of my Park's Obi-Wan (Episode I) and Qui-Gon (Episode I) EL machined lightsabers uploaded.  They can be found in the "Custom machined....." section, at the bottom.

June 25, 2006 - Pictures of my boot extensions (or whatever you want to call them) have no been taken and uploaded.  Details and pics are in the "Additional Gear" section.

June 24, 2006 - Pictures of my new 3-watt LED lightsaber.  I used several pre-machined lightsaber parts, and did alot of cutting, drilling, and some polishing, on my own.  This project was mostly a tester of some ideas I have, and because of this, I will now be purchasing a dedicated drill press.  I will also get pictures up of the two most recent lightsaber commissions.  They were both 3-watt LED - the first ones commissioned from me.

May 14, 2006 - New section created for my Star Wars art.  Initially, it will just show the signature pictures I have made, for myself, and at the request of others.  For those that don't know, a signature picture is used when posting in forums, and is attached to every post you make, usually at the end, just like a letter.

May 9, 2006 - New pictures uploaded, mostly from the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, held on May 7, 2006.  The biggest celebrity guest (in more ways than 1) was Peter Mayhew, aka Chewbacca!  I got my picture with him, and his autograph.

I have also created a new layout for my event pics, breaking up the pics into sections, making for faster loading and navigation.

April 20, 2006 - Minor addition: just a second (possible better) pic of my hilt thigh holster uploaded.

April 11, 2006 - Pics of my newest LED 3W lightsaber posted.

March 07, 2006:  Woohooo!!  I got my (custom) machined Qui-Gon (Ep.1) EL lightsaber today!!  I'll get some pics up at the same time as my Obi-Wan!

February 28, 2006:  Woohooo!!  I got my (custom) machined Obi-Wan (Ep.1) EL lightsaber today!!  I will get some pics up ASAP.  Until then, a couple notes.  First, it is slightly smaller than I had imagined Obi-Wan's hilt would be.  It is only about 1.25" thick.  But size aside, it looks awesome, and has a nice heft to it (being at least 90% machined aluminum).  This is also my first time being able to closely inspect an EL blade built by (Jeff) Parks.  Yes, he uses EL tape, and 3-conductor stereo connectors.  Other items to note: there is a quite visible seam the length of the blade (the EL tape is rolled), and the invertor is very loud, but it is bright.  There is also a 1 inch gap at the tip of the blade with no EL in it, and the tip itself, is unlit.  From a distance the blade will look fine, but closer than 10 feet, my blades are FAR superior, especially with the blade coating I put on the outside.  Also, many people have commented in the past that either Parks hilts and/or blades were not commonly compatible with home-built lightsabers.  I am happy to say that all my blades and hilts are compatible with the Parks hardware.

February 11, 2006: EL lightsaber #9 uploaded.  It is listed and displayed at the bottom of the EL lightsabers section.

January 25, 2006 - Jedi Ranger Homepage created: Well, I have decided to do some serious reorganization of my website.  I am moving all the Star Wars "Gear" to a new page, but will still maintain all the links.  Everything should appear seamless, but if anyone made bookmarks of any "Gear" pages, those may not function anymore.  I have also created a page containing some selected favorite websites pertaining to Star Wars costumes and others specifically to lightsabers (parts & complete lightsabers).  Lots of lightsaber pics uploaded, and an "Event Pics" section finally created.

October 30, 2005: Pictures uploaded of my new lightsaber thigh holster, the finally completed upgrades to my very first lightsaber, the "Prototype", and also pics of my first machined aluminum hilt, purchased online from another lightsaber builder.

October 08, 2005: Pictures uploaded of upgrades done to Tyler and Jishan's lightsabers.  I also revamped the "Gear" page to it loads faster.  The new small pictures link to larger versions.

September 26, 2005: Pictures of my new "gold hilt" uploaded.  I tried 5 new design features that I have never tried yet.  So, this one is another prototype.  These are rough indoor pictures.  I will take some better ones when I get a chance with proper day-light.

September 14, 2005:  Well, I have just received word from Tyler that he and he friends have done their first film test with the lightsabers.  A link will be posted here and in the SW gear section.  Go to the Videos section and look down near the bottom of the list for the film called "Clash on Aerius Prime (1:22) -Tyler & Habib."

August 16, 2005:  Okay.  About a month ago, a very long overdue project finally came to fruition.  It was not my project, but I was able to participate.  The biggest and probably the most well-known producer of Star Wars fan audio initiated the creation of a Star Wars Sourcebook based on his numerous audio stories.

I contacted Nathan Butler more than a year ago, as he had posted a request for any unused designs (of all types) that prospective fan-film producers had not used.  I was not one, but having designed starships/starfighters for more than ten years, I had more than a few designs.  I provided him a link to my VERY rough website, and he was very interested in several.  He ended up choosing one current design, and I designed two NEW starships based on the requirements Nathan provided.

The chosen starships are marked with * in "My Star Wars Designs".  Here is a link to Nathan Butler's Fan Audio Works site.  Check it out, especially the primary and original story, Second Strike.

Look here for the Rayzor's Edge Audio Guidebook.  Scroll down about half-way.
