Robert Scagel works with watercolours, comprising both
western and Asian (Chinese brush) styles. His work emphasizes landscapes
and botanical subjects. He also works in acrylics and mixed media and
produces numerous objects in papier mache, including a variety of masks
and heads.

The artist began painting following retirement. He
completed a number of courses of instruction and workshops in art,
mainly in evening courses at the University of British Columbia
(Continuing Education) and Vancouver City College (Langara Campus), and
also at Simon Fraser University (Harbour Centre Campus), and Vancouver
and Richmond Night Schools. He has received awards for watercolour
paintings in exhibitions in Vancouver, White Rock, Prince George and
Quesnel, and has had several selected for showing in juried exhibitions
in Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Delta and White Rock. He works in his
private studio and maintains a gallery which is open by appointment.
