Angel Whispers is a non-denominational service for parents who have lost a baby shortly after birth, or during pregnancy, through miscarriage, molar or ectopic pregnancy, or stillbirth. Many families not only grieve the loss of a pregnancy, but the loss of a baby. However, because in some cases the baby was not born, they are often denied the opportunity to fully grieve their loss.
Angel Whispers is based on the fundamental belief that a healthy way to cope with such a tragedy is to obtain information, seek others who offer empathy, and to allow oneself to experience grief.
Angel Whispers was created by three moms in the Edmonton area who have experienced the loss of their baby, one shortly after birth, one through miscarriage, and one through stillbirth. It is a non-profit charity operating under the umbrella of Families First Society of Fort Saskatchewan. For more information, please visit their website at www.familiesfirstsociety.ca.
Baby Loss Facts...
Miscarriage
occurs in 20 to 30 % of all confirmed pregnancies.
75
to 80 % of miscarriages occur within the first 12 weeks of conception,
sometimes so early that a woman my not even know she is pregnant.
It
is therefore believed that 50 % of all conceptions result in miscarriage.
Ectopic
pregnancy occurs in 2 to 3 % of all conceptions.
Molar
pregnancy occurs in 1 out of 2000 pregnancies.
The
perinatal mortality rate for the Captial Health Region is 10.9 per 1000
births. This includes stillbirths and babies who die within seven days of
their birth.
In
50 % of all stillbirths, no cause can be determined.
Our Mission:
Angel Whispers exists to provide caring, confidential support services to families who have experienced baby loss, as well as their caregivers.
Our Goals:
To
provide information and support to individuals who have experienced the loss
of a baby during pregnancy or shortly after birth.
To connect
grieving families so they need not suffer a "silent sorrow".
To
provide information and support to families who are anxiously pregnant again
after experiencing baby loss.
To
provide information to extended family and friends as to how best assist
grieving families.
To
increase public awareness of the high incidence of baby loss in our
community and the implications it has for grieving parents.
