Soaring Information and Weather Notes:
Description of LZ:
Huge field which is mainly flat. No obstructions. 2-1 glide to LZ.
Watch our for heavy duty power lines.
LZ is closed in May, June and
July due to growing crops. Expect to see
a large variety of wildlife - Moose, Elk, deer, bear and so forth.
Site usually snowed in until end of June. Ask for John Howard at
the
Elkford Garage.
Rainer Korn and Ross Amundson say
landing
there has been ok recently, saying the LZ has either been sold
or the lawyer (is or was Roy Remalard?)
doesn't
care anymore. - which might be because our HPAC insurance is
so good now.
- (it may be that the landowner lives in Kelowna and just was not there at the times they landed.)
John was negotiating hard with the Elko
LZ
owner a few years ago.
He says the site is / was definitely
closed
and if so should be taken off the site guide list... subject
to more current
information from you guys.
Dennis Turner says Elko was sold to
someone
out of Kelowna that does not welcome hangglider pilots.
John Howard went to bat and tried
all he
could to allow access to feild with no luck. So site has
been closed for
the past 4 years.
Directions to LZ:
The LZ is off the road to launch. Take the left hand turn just
before
the power lines. The field is only a 2 - 1 glide and is huge.
There is no flying at this site from May to June: the farmer
closes
the field because of growing crops.
Check before you fly to make sure that it is open. This site is on
a mountain range that stretches from Golden to the USA Border.
